Sunday August 19th, 2001, 11:30am, Highway 17 Eastbound
We just started off down the highway toward North Bay. We woke up at 6am as scheduled (actually everything was always on schedule) and broke camp in record time. The sunrise set the sky ablaze in red. Happy not to have to stick around to test the veracity of that old sailor's rhyme, I was. Inconceivably, the wind was against us. We were on the water by 8am and we made Key Inlet by 11:00 am.
Jim reckons that, all told, we paddled about 75km. It seemed like less to me, but that could just be because I was in a kayak. I liked kayaking. So much so that I fear that the next time I get in a canoe I'll feel like I'm standing still.
We should be in Ottawa by around 7pm or so, assuming "favourable conditions".
